Pitched roofTimber structureStructural reinforcement
The challenge
The timber roof structure was no longer adequate. In older buildings that's a common picture: the structure was calculated for the weight of the original covering, not for what's on it now.
Replacing the covering alone wouldn't have resolved the underlying problem.
Our approach
The timber structure was reinforced at the points where capacity fell short, before the new roof went on.
Decayed timber was replaced rather than sistered. Sistering alongside rotten timber moves the problem.
The pitched roof was then replaced, including detailing at junctions and penetrations.
Outcome
A roof structure that genuinely carries the new covering, with a new roof on top.
Structure and covering in a single contract, by the same crew.
